Nov 18, 2008 - 3. ibn qayim/ibn abdul wahhab/etc. have their own methodology somehow seem to believe they are different because they follw the quran and sunnah directly or the salf directly. this is not true. they simply follow the opinion of scholars just as the rest. they are not mujtahidun who go to the evidences directly. when s/o says i follow abu hanifa/malik/shafi'i/ahmad/ibn taymia/uthaymeen/etc. on this matter all they are saying is that i beleive these scholars are experts in this matter...

AREN'T WE ALL LIKE THIS? but i find that 'salafis' (i'm using that as acatch-all term) seem to think that they are somehow different...

Nov 18, 2008 - 5. myself, i think it is because until recently, fatawa from the 4 schools didnt gennerally cite all evidences but quoted earlier authorities in the madhahib whilst 'salafi' fatawa are replete with ayat/ahadith. so the impression that salafis have of the madhahib is that they are only following the opinions of people i/o the quran and sunnah. they forget that the books of the schools contain all the ayat/ahadith evidences and arguments against opposing views.
