Wierd as it may seem, Paddington Bear, from darkest Peru has been a beloved stuffed animal for millions for the past decade. Personally, I received Paddington Bear as a gift when I was ill as a child from my best friend. Interestingly, this bear became my favorite stuffed animal and 40 some odd years later, he is still with me. He has lost his floppy yellow hat, long since discarded his lovely blue jacket with wooden peg/ buttons and shiny yellow boots. Thankfully, L.L.Bean came out with a bear years ago that sported a bright blue pullover fleece and that is what my Paddington wears after all these years.Paddington and I have traveled across the US and through most of Europe together. His adventures include being left in a Bed and Breakfast in Scotland (returned via a very kind and trusting old woman through Fed Ex to the states) and being carted off in sheets at the hotel Lowes Monte Carlo accidentally. He had the best bath ever and was safely returned by a very confused housekeeper.Paddington went to the University of Ga. and has survived a 16 year marriage and three children, all boys(reading Paddington Bear stories was a favorite pasttime in their early years). He has swung from the ceiling at the SAE party shack and been thrown from moving vehicles, but he always ends up back at home. Despite many holes, worn out fur and a serious wrinkle issue after being used as a pillow all these years, Paddington is the best gift I ever received.
