Nov 18, 2008 - Awesome video Rick! The techniques for the breakfalls are top! This is one area I think really should learn not for just fighting but for everyday life. Having slipped on ice numerous times lol if you don't know how to fall right it can be very serious. Great work my man.

Nov 18, 2008 - This is so necessary! Many don't do this any more and I think this should be done more often. Thank you Rick.

Nov 18, 2008 - I will tell you I hate falling Nigel but obviously I had to get used to it . One of my teachers threw me when the lights were on and I crashed hard getting the wind knocked out of me then he turned off the lights and said we were working on nightime self defense all of a sudden he threw me and I landed perfectly . I asked him how could this be , he said because you did not anticipate the impact nor the throw. He said children fall and get back up , old people fall and get hurt
Kempojiujutsu Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - Part .2 the reason being obviously the older we get the more brittle the bones get however an older person has had a life time of experience knowing what will happen to them if they fall so they tense up . A child on the other hand does not have the life experience and when they play and fall they do not really realize that they will hurt themselves and do not tense up . Have you ever seen a little one playing and they fall and we all go "ouch" and then they get right up and play some more .
Kempojiujutsu Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - Part 3. So still to this day I sometimes tense up and it hurts but my general point is the more relaxed one becomes the more soft one will fall and the less one will injure themselves. Take Care Bro

Nov 18, 2008 - Thanks David a subscriber asked if I could make this video . I am not the greatest at ukemi but not bad. One of my teachers out of many made us do so much ukemi we hated it . He told us of a time he was on a scaffold about 15-20 feet up and it snapped the scaffold and he crashed and he did a side breakfall and broke his arm and dislocated his shoulder , the doctor told him that he was lucky that he knew how to do this and that he could have broke his neck or back. He always relayed this story .

Nov 18, 2008 - Thanks Mike , I was watching some Aikido practioners doing ukemi the other day and was amazed at how soft they land . I never got to black belt in Yoshinkan Aikido but the black belts used to fall so soft it was quite extraordinary

Nov 18, 2008 - Thanks Mark for the comment I am glad you watched it my ukemi skills are not the greatest but I try , so a comment from you means a lot to me . I tried to answer the questions and give comments on how my teachers taught me and how they relayed their teachings to me. Thanks for the comment and rating sir.

Nov 18, 2008 - 10 stars thanks my friend . We have to come up with a new rating system like 1000 throwing stars or 500 black belts or something like that LOL. Just teasing I appreciate your comments and ratings.

Nov 18, 2008 - Great, sorry I missed this earlier. I'd like to be able to get up if someone knocks me down. The story on the scaffold happened to my fiance also, but he did not fair well since he lacked the knowledge. Thank you for posting and teachings. Wish I could learn the Kempo and Aikido. *bow
