Adelina Patti (1843-1919) / Pur Dicesti / (Lotti) / accompanied by Landon Ronald / 12" acoustic 78 rpm disc / IRCC # 33-A / Recorded: December 1905 at Patti's Craig-y-nos Castle in Wales / Speed: 73 rpm.******************************Though well past her prime when she recorded in 1905 and again in 1906 at her castle in Wales, some of the magic is still very much in evidence. Patti's trill, on display at the close of the second and third verse here, remains unmatched to this day. ******************************Pur dicesti, o bocca bella,Quel soave e caro sì,Che fatutto il mio piacer.Per onor di sua facellaCon un bacio Amor taprì,Dolce fonte del goder, ah! ******************************

Nov 23, 2008 - It is indeed one of Patti's best, along with her second, 1906 performance of Tosti's Serenata and her recording of "Ah, non credea."Many prefer Patti's singing of "Pur dicesti" to that of Melba's, which is also astonishing.

Nov 23, 2008 - Have wondered.... WHAT IF Patti had approached her recording sessions the way Galli-Gurci would only a decade or so later and throughout her career? Real projects (which also must have sorely tested a few in the studio). Sigrid Onegin's rendition of "Pur Dicesti" is another to reckon with. And Madame Melba is at times beyond words. We're indeed fortunate to have these many souvenirs. Cheers, etc.
