CHAN:South Korea's 2nd international fleet review is being held in Busan. 50 warships and 30 aircraft are taking part in this event. The purpose of the gathering is to show off Korea's Navy and marine security capabilities. Organizers say it's the largest of its kind. Let's take a look.STORY:The 2008 International Fleet Review of the Republic of Korea is being held in Busan to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Republic of Korea.24 warships from 12 countries are joining the event including the US nuclear powered aircraft carrier "George Washington” and the Korean Navy's Aegis destroyers.[Jung Seung Yang, Event Organizer and Navy Colonel]:"Through this international Fleet Review, we'd like to show to the world the Korean Navy's massive improvement since its establishment.”[Young Min Kim, Dokdo Troop Education Staff]:”I, as a Navy man, am very proud to be a part of this international event that's organized by the Korean Navy.”In front of the 1,500 strong crowd, fire power demonstrations were performed by 50 warships, 30 aircraft and 10,000 Navy soldiers.[Shin Ja Park, Citizen]:”When I've watched various ships from worldwide, I could discover each countries' customs and characters through them.”[Sung Sik Kim, Citizen]:”This is the first time that I've ever seen foreign warships. I was very impressed by the US aircraft carrier. It was so huge.”150 Yachts attending the Busan Yacht Festival that coincides with the fleet review also contribute with displays of colorful flags.Foreign Navy soldiers attending the review will also take part in the Jagalchi Festival on 9th of October, strengthening ties of friendship with Korea.
